Shino's appearance is believed to be based on a hannya mask, a costume piece that has been used in the Japanese Noh theater for hundreds of years to represent a jealous/possessive female demon. Shino's pointy horns, sharp fangs, and eyebrows are all reminiscent of this mask.
When she gave me her photo the other day, I discovered that the hidden message behind the frame (her favorite saying) basically confirms this hannya association.
Shino's photo also completed my basement wall collection of villager and NPC photos, which you can see at the end of the video.
