If any of you were wondering what next-generation VR RACING could look like, you’ve come to the right place.
This video marks a new chapter in my ongoing effort to create a hyper-realistic driving experience on KUNOS platforms. Today, I’m testing the limits of Assetto Corsa EVO, equipped with DLSS 4.5 and running in 8K VR — pushing the simulator far beyond its current out-of-the-box capabilities to explore what the future of immersive sim racing might truly become.
One of the biggest challenges in Assetto Corsa Evo right now is VR performance. With the simulator still relying on the outdated NVIDIA DLSS 3, both frame rate and image clarity fall far short of what modern VR hardware demands. The result: soft visuals, poor texture sharpness, and an experience that simply isn’t acceptable for serious VR sim racers.
To explore what could be possible, I’ve upgraded the sim to NVIDIA’s newly released DLSS 4.5 and started experimenting to unlock the maximum VR potential of version 0.4.1.
All graphics settings are set to ULTRA.
DLSS 4.5 runs in Quality preset, combined with an effective SteamVR resolution of 5600 × 4136 pixels per eye, displayed through the MeganeX 8K Superlight VR headset.
The system is powered by my RTX 5090 and AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, allowing the simulation to stretch its legs far beyond default limits.
A huge thank you and genuine praise goes to NVIDIA, whose continuous development of DLSS technology makes experiences like this even possible.
On the hardware side, there has been a major evolution as well. The DOF Reality P3 has officially been retired.
Today’s run is driven by a custom-built HN Motion 6DOF rig, equipped with 7× 250 mm “Monster” actuators. This is complemented by an extensive body-transducer system for vehicle and track haptics, Simucube Active Pedal Pro for fully active braking feedback, and the new Simagic Alpha Evo Pro wheelbase.
The result is a brutally powerful, uncompromising full motion rig — designed specifically for the Nordschleife, with its extreme elevation changes, compressions, and relentless corner sequences. The custom HN Motion system is the logical response to one goal: making this legendary track physically tangible in a way that was previously hard to imagine.
This test takes place on KUNOS’ new Nordschleife in Assetto Corsa Evo, using a custom high-contrast post-processing filter, with all visual settings maxed out.
This is a glimpse of what VR driving in Assetto Corsa Evo could look like in the future.
At the same time, this is a respectful but clear request to KUNOS Simulazioni:
please continue pushing the graphics engine forward, work towards native DLSS 4.5 support, and fully exploit all available technologies to improve both image clarity and overall performance — especially for VR.
This track, this simulator, and this technology deserve it.
