A revised proposal for a large development in Oshtemo Charter Township is facing new resistance from both residents and township officials after developers unveiled major changes to a project approved just last year.
The project, known as West Main Villages, sits along West Main Street near Advia Credit Union.
It was approved in 2025 as the township's very first development under its new Mixed Use District zoning, or MUD ordinance.
That zoning was created in 2024 to encourage development projects that combine housing, retail and community amenities in a walkable layout, according to city leaders.
The original plan included multiple small commercial buildings along West Main Street, 10 apartment buildings with 336 units, and 54 duplex buildings with 108 dwellings, for a total of 440 housing units.
The Detroit-based developer, Ferlito Group, however, returned to the planning commission this week with a revised plan that would significantly change the project’s layout and scale.
