I headed to the Royal Canal to see if there were any signs of life as spring begins. Moving between multiple spots, scanning the water, and covering ground, I was expecting at least some activity.

Instead, I saw just one single pike and no visible baitfish or perch. The canal felt empty. No follows, no signs of predators feeding, and very little movement in the water.

Early spring fishing in Ireland can be tough, especially on canals, and this session really highlighted how seasonal transitions affect predator behaviour.
