For quite a while now I have been actively fascinated with the phenomenon of Russia. This country, in all its historical forms, haunted my life from elementary school, given that Lithuania’s history was sadly forcefully tied with the history of Russia. During the past year, however, motivated by the war in Ukraine, I started to actively ponder and delve into the motivations behind this war. Naturally, the deeper I delved in, the deeper my curiosity got. Russia’s extremely turbulent and honestly depressing history fascinated me. I wanted to wrap my mind around how out of that sad history arose some of the greatest writers of all time like Dostoevsky and Tolstoy. This journey eventually led me to trying to grasp the mentality (or the psychological state) of the Russian nation. Throughout this investigation, one question never escaped me. To frame it in Peterson’s manner: just what in the hell is up with them? I will try to venture an answer.
