Back to work and the recovery of the stone wall in the stairwell.
With the stairs now gone I can remove various materials from on top of the stones. A thick layer of cement render needs to be power chiselled off. A thick line of cement then needs to patiently chipped away. I then need to clean the stones and the joints, by removing a lot of old lime mortar. This creates a lot of dust that I need to stop covering everything in the house now that the stairwell is opened up and there are no doors downstairs. My solution involves some temporary sheets that acted like a big indoor dust tent. It did a good job of stopping the dust getting out, but was dark and hot.
After a lot of time cleaning stones and chipping away material the stone wall becomes more visible. I then do a number of water washes, culminating in a power wash with a karcher.
Billy is with me for the first day, but after that I am working alone in the house. Apart from the main wall, I also do some work on another wall and some more tidying of the old well structure. It was a busy week, with various commitments off site, but I was pleased with the end results of the wall work.

about my channel and its videos
- - - -
My channel is about the renovation and restoration of an old stone house on a hill in Catalunya (North East of Spain). The house is near the Costa Brava and has magnificent views of the forest around it and the Mediterranean Sea.
The house has many beautiful old features, including its stone walls, vaulted ceilings, ancient terracotta tiles and many quirky parts added over the centuries. At the moment, I am working on the house on my own as I try to turn it into a dream home in harmony with the nature and culture that surrounds it.
The house is not in France or Italy and is not a Chateau or Cabin, but I watch and am inspired by channels that are. Especially Martijn Doolaard's earlier videos and Dan Preston's Escape to Rural France. I love Martijn's style, philosophy and cinematography and Dan's energy, humour and ambition. I'm trying to include some of these attributes in my videos.
