Our goal wasn’t to create a mountain bike conversion kit by simply adding a motor to a bicycle frame that wasn’t designed and intended to operate with one. Instead, we designed the bike around the motor and the drivetrain with the necessary framework and durability needed to withstand the abuse and demands placed on it, and then included a comprehensive warranty to stand behind it.

The Bakcou Mule and Storm electric bikes are built around the Bafang ULTRA Mid-Drive Motor, Bafang’s newest generation of eBike motors. Unlike previous Bafang models, the ULTRA mid-drive motor is the only electric bike motor equipped with a torque sensor in addition to the cadence and speed sensors. The highly sensitive torque sensor tells the ULTRA motor how much pressure is being applied to the pedals, allowing it to respond with an equal amount of power in return. The more pressure applied, the more power returned. The torque sensor give you a natural feeling ride, rather than having a non-controlled amount of power delivered when the pedals are turned.

Unlike many electric bike motors that have a delayed response due to the absence of a torque sensor, the ULTRA motor delivers power instantaneously as the rider begins pedaling. On that same note, the torque sensor instantaneously shuts off the power supply when the rider stops pedaling, which allows for better handling and safer riding on technical terrain.
