The issue has triggered a major political confrontation between HD Kumaraswamy and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. Meanwhile, the JDS youth wing led by Nikhil Kumaraswamy has launched a Padayatra in support of affected farmers.

Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda has also raised concerns regarding the project, while the JD(S)-BJP alliance has vowed to challenge the land acquisition legally and politically.
