I have two children, a boy and a girl.
I live near Michigan where the cost of living is expensive. To supplement our grocery budget I have joined a CSA share to provide my family with fresh vegetables each week. You will see Aldi and Sam’s club hauls as that is primarily where we shop.When the season permits I get fruits from the farmers market as well as a wide variety of items from the Food Banks. I am learning how to meal prep and hope to share that with you as well.

Need food ?
If you are in need of food do not hesitate to check out your local food bank/pantry. It can be nerve wracking at first but it’s really not as bad as it seems. We all deserve to eat! 😊

What is a CSA share
A CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) share is a way to support local farmers by purchasing a seasonal box of produce in advance. It's essentially a membership to a farm, where you receive a share of their harvest throughout the growing season. This typically involves weekly pickups of fresh vegetables.

Why do you go to the food bank?
I’m sure you already know that the cost of living has went up significantly. Going to the food bank allows us to prevent further debt and do needed maintenance on my home. I am a full time working mom and even full time working is not always enough! I am thankful to the companies and corporations who allow the food that is headed for the garbage to be donated first.

How about EBT?
We no longer receive EBT as my income is considered too high. This does not mean you or I still cannot utilize Food banks. Student loans, debt, house repairs, medical expenses, and car repairs are just a few examples of why you might want to visit a food bank. If you receive EBT I would recommend you use it at your local farmers market in order to receive double up food bucks. Double up food bucks are a great way to stretch any EBT received.

What are Double Up Food Bucks ?
Double up Food Bucks allow you to spend a certain amount of money on fresh fruits and vegetables. If you spend $20 from your EBT card you will get an extra $20 to use as well, making the total you can spend $40. Only at participating locations. Please check for a location near you.
