In China, we celebrate many festivals each year. In this piece, I incorporate drum solos intertwined with instrumental passages to create joyful rhythms and melodies that capture the festive atmosphere of families gathering together during these celebrations. The slow middle section reflects the people's yearning for peace, prosperity, and happiness.
Celebration was commissioned and premiered by the Minnesota Sinfonia, conducted by Jay Fishman, on October 19, 2021, at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis, MN. This video features the full wind band version commissioned and premiered by the President's Own United States Marine Band.
