Rock Musician. In 1976, he and Ric Ocasek co-founded the rock group The Cars in Boston. He was their bass player and sang lead vocals on their hit songs "Just What I Needed", "Let's Go", "Candy-O", and their biggest hit "Drive". Orr also had a solo hit "Stay The Night" during his time with The Cars. His last years were spent in Atlanta, where he formed the band Big People with musicians from other classic rock outfits, which included Ted Nugent sideman Derek St. Holmes, .38 Special guitarist Jeff Carlisi and Billy Joel's drummer, Liberty DeVito. Benjamin Orr was diagnosed with inoperable Pancreatic Cancer in May of 2000. He continued to perform in concert with Big People right up until Sept 27th. He passed away just before midnight on Oct. 3, 2000 surrounded by close friends and family.
