Welcome to this Neon Live In Los Angeles Guitar Tutorial by John Mayer!
It's been a long time coming and after hundreds if not thousands of requests, here it is! It's a big lesson but that's because there are so many nuances and parts of this song to explain. My main tip would be to take it slow and not set your expectations too high. This will take. along time to master. It personally took me 4 months and you can check out my learning journey documented in a video I put out here -    • Learning Neon (Live In LA) on Guitar.  

The part that evades most learners is the proper picking technique that John uses and details in his TikTok video. The crux of it is that you use your thumb and index finger playing the pattern at 16th notes continuously thumb/index/thumb/index. The thumb slap is also an important element that gives the riff a percussive feel.
