The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge holds a special place in my heart, so I wanted to share a little about the journey of how you might wind up visiting to see for yourself. In my late teens, the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge was a fantastic place visit, but I also managed to get a job and work at. Anyone who has ever worked at this lodge knows exactly how nice this resort is, and how exciting it is to meet new people from all over the world. Workers are typically more social than your average guest, and because you are situated within a common dormitory, every employee gets to enjoy their stay peacefully while still being close enough to hang out on a whim.

Driving from Edmonton, Jasper National Park is located just slightly west of Hinton. The view from the car ride is breathtaking. The mountains are overwhelmingly huge, and get larger as you edge your way further west. There is so much wildlife to see, it reminds me of a nature documentary. From sheep and elk, to bears and moose; They are all here!

Once you enter Jasper National Park, it is about a 45 minute drive until you reach the actual town of Jasper, where the The lodge is situated just slightly before the town. To get to the lodge, you need to drive over the Athabasca River, till you eventually come across a big archway that reads, 'Welcome.'

As you approach Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, Mildred Lake will be on the right. When Mildred Lake freezes over it is usually turned into a skating rink. The staff create a giant oval, and setup a couple rinks in the center for pickup games. Do not forget to bring a pair of ice skates!

As a guest at the resort, the staff at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge are always friendly and inviting. For example, they were able to bump us up from a Queen bed to a King size, at no extra charge and no hassle. They simply had the space and asked us if we would like to stay in a more comfortable cabin. Honestly, I can not say enough about their excellent service and hospitality.

Whether it is skating, devouring smores at the campfire, or just staring up at the stars and thinking about life, there is not much more one can really ask for in a hotel experience. I love visiting the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge to get away from the busyness of the city. The prices vary depending on the time of year, typically more around the winter holidays, but keep an eye peeled and don't be afraid to book in advance! Depending on your budget, there are a variety of options for the size of cabins, or if you can afford it, the main lodge.

An amazing outdoor heated pool. You literally start inside and swim into the outdoor potion. It feels so good, you have to try it! It is advisable to wear a toque though, as your ears can get quite cold. There is just such beautiful and poetic scenery surrounding the premises.

Favourite Thing
One of the main reasons I go to Jasper will always be for Marmot Basin. If you are from Edmonton, it is the closest mountain to ski or snowboard. It is an enjoyable mountain to ride.
In terms of a mountain resort, this lodge has it all. The outdoor pool, multitude of friendly staff, marvellous restaurants, and Marmot Basin ski resort. Honestly, it's probably my favourite winter getaway.
