Trump suffers a major health and cognitive crisis just 24 hours before his 2026 State of the Union address. During an Angel Families ceremony at the White House on February 23, the President told grieving families he does not know how long he will be around, interrupted the memorial to discuss a woman's eye surgery on live television, and rambled about the 2020 election to parents who buried their children.
His behavior over a 72-hour period leading into tonight's SOTU includes: publicly questioning his own survival, claiming California Governor Gavin Newsom dropped out of a presidential race that does not exist, posting AI-generated videos of himself punching Canadian hockey players, and telling audiences men want to kiss him violently.
Newsom's official press office responded by calling the President "sundowning," a clinical term associated with dementia-related confusion. Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace posted "please pray for President Trump." Even his own party is alarmed.
Meanwhile, the polls have collapsed. CNN's latest survey shows Trump at 36 percent approval with independents at a record-low 26 percent. The Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll has 60 percent of Americans disapproving, the worst since January 6th. AP-NORC has him at negative 26 net approval. Four major polls all hit second-term lows simultaneously.
32 Democratic lawmakers are boycotting tonight's State of the Union, including Senator Adam Schiff, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Senator Ruben Gallego. A People's State of the Union rally is being held on the National Mall as counterprogramming.
