Описание: Dr. John Evelyn Thorndyke is the main character in a series of 21 novels and 40 short stories by British writer R. Austin Freeman (1862–1943). He is a pioneer of forensic science, who uses his medical and legal expertise to solve crimes. He collects and analyzes all kinds of evidence,
from dust to pond weed, before he considers the suspects and motives. Freeman made sure that his methods were realistic by doing all the experiments himself that he mentioned in the stories.

Science is becoming more popular and useful in the early 20th Century, and John Thorndyke is a doctor and detective who applies scientific methods and experiments to crack the most mysterious cases. In this collection, you will find stories such as: The Man with the Nailed Shoes, where Thorndyke investigates a murder with a strange clue; The Stranger’s Latchkey, where Thorndyke helps a man who is accused of a crime he did not commit; The Anthropologist at Large, where Thorndyke tracks down a missing scientist; The Blue Sequin, where Thorndyke solves a case involving a stolen jewel; The Moabite Cipher, where Thorndyke decodes a secret message; The Mandarin’s Pearl, where Thorndyke uncovers a fraud; The Aluminium Dagger, where Thorndyke proves the innocence of a man who is charged with murder; and A Message from the Deep Sea, where Thorndyke reveals the truth behind a mysterious death.

R. Austin Freeman (1862–1943) was a British writer who specialized in detective stories. He was one of the first authors to use the inverted detective story technique, where the reader knows the identity of the criminal from the beginning. His most famous creation was Dr. John Thorndyke, a doctor and lawyer who used forensic science and logic to solve crimes. Thorndyke appeared in many novels and short stories, starting with The Red Thumb Mark (1907), and became one of the most popular detectives of his time.
