Without questioning or hesitation, the old man took them to his small, warm house. From that day on, a kind of silent division of labor was formed between them; every morning, the mother would bake bread, cook food, and brew tea in the old man's old kitchen. The smell of fresh bread and simple village stews filled the house again; something the old man had been deprived of for years.
