⛰️ Day 2: Dead Woman's Pass - The Hardest Day on the Inca Trail
This was the most challenging day of the entire trek. I didn't train properly and paid for it around the 3rd hour. We spent a total of 8 hours hiking, 6 hours climbing to 13,828 feet, and every step reminded me why Dead Woman's Pass has its reputation. Ugh!

🏕️ Starting Point: Hatunchaca Campsite
📍 Ending Elevation: Dead Woman's Pass (13,828 ft / 4,215 m)
⏱️ Total Hiking Time: 8 hours (6 up, 2 down)
💀 Difficulty: Yeah, it's no joke.

THE ROUTE
✅ WAYLLABAMBA CHECKPOINT
Quick stop at the designated Inca Trail check-in point. Still feeling good here... that changed.
🍫 AYAPATA - SNACK STOP
Brief break to refuel. You need every calorie you can get for what's coming.
🍽️ LLULLUCHAPAMPA - LUNCH
Lunch stop before the final push. Looking up at Dead Woman's Pass from here is... intimidating.
🥵 THE FINAL STRETCH
This is where it gets real. Steep switchbacks, thin air, and your legs screaming at you. 6 hours of climbing to reach the highest point on the entire Inca Trail.

WHAT SURPRISED ME
🌿 THE AMAZON SCENERY
The Inca Trail skirts the Amazon, and you're hiking through this lush, green canopy. Beautiful foliage everywhere. It's easy to forget how hard you're working when you're surrounded by that kind of nature... until your lungs remind you.
🫁 THE ALTITUDE
Even if you acclimatized in Cusco, 13,828 feet while hiking uphill is a whole other experience. The thin air hits different.

REAL TALK
If you're planning the Inca Trail: TRAIN. Seriously. I thought my daily walks and weekend hikes would be enough, but they weren't. Day 2 will humble you fast if you're not ready. Cardio, elevation training if you can, leg strength – don't skip leg day, especially squats. It all matters.
That said, even undertrained and struggling, making it to the top of Dead Woman's Pass is unforgettable. The views, the accomplishment, the relief... worth every brutal step.

🐢 Pace yourself - Slow and steady, this isn't a race
💧 Hydrate constantly - The altitude dehydrates you fast
🍫 Bring extra snacks - You'll burn through calories
🧘 Mental game - It's as much mental as physical
