Windows 98 represented a step change in the worlds most common operating system and firmly cemented Microsoft as the the number one OS creator. Not only that but pushed Internet Explorer to be the No.1 web browser in a near monopoly.
For many old games this is the last OS that will support them and the same is true for some legacy hardware so Win 98 is still in use in home and industrial settings although no longer in large numbers.
