India Secures LPG Supply as Ships Cross Strait of Hormuz Amid Gulf Tensions

Описание: The Government of India held a high-level inter-ministerial briefing with officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways to review the situation in the Gulf region.

Officials said India has stepped up efforts to secure energy supplies and ensure the safety of its citizens as tensions continue in West Asia.

Two Indian-flagged LPG carriers — Shivalik and Nanda Devi — have safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz and are now heading to Mundra Port and Kandla Port.

The ships are carrying around 92,700 metric tonnes of LPG and are expected to reach Indian ports by March 16 or 17.

Officials said the vessels were among 24 ships stranded on the western side of the strait after the conflict escalated. Currently, 22 vessels remain stranded in the Gulf region, including LPG carriers, crude oil tankers, container ships and bulk carriers.

Rajesh Kumar Sinha said that in the past three days six ships arriving from non-Gulf regions were given priority berthing at Indian ports.

Meanwhile, refineries have increased production by 31 percent, and commercial LPG cylinder distribution has started in 29 states.
