Upper - tennis shoes typically have a much more durable upper made out of TPU material for added durability which can weigh the shoe down. Running shoes are known for being lightweight and have a more lightweight mesh material that also allows for more breathability
-This makes tennis shoes more stable and running shoes more prone to twisting and not as stable

-Adidas Barricade Tennis Shoe - 14.6oz (men’s 10.5)

Midsole cushioning - midsole cushioning on a running shoe is drastically thicker and provide more cushion than that of a tennis shoe. The Barricade is a bit of an outlier here as it has the Bounce Technology that Adidas has in their running shoes for more spring in your step.
-No lockdown in running shoes
-The midsole on running shoes is flush with the upper whereas on tennis shoes, there is a thick outrigger to provide better stability especially on lateral movements that are very common on the tennis court. Moving quickly from side to side in a running shoe is not how they are designed so you can severely roll your ankle with the lack of support you have in a running shoe as running shoes do not have an outrigger

Outsole - tennis shoes have specific tread on the outsole meant for better traction on the material that tennis courts are made of whereas running shoes have an ‘all-terrain’ tread meant for running on several different surfaces and inclines resulting in poor traction on a tennis court. Tennis shoes have unique tread pattern for added stability and traction as well as a shank that aids in lateral movements.
-Running shoes have a noticeable toe drop-off whereas tennis shoes are more grounded and flat to feel connected with the court.
