Passenger train services between China and North Korea are resuming after nearly six years, with routes suspended since Pyongyang sealed its borders during the COVID-19 pandemic. The journey from Beijing to Pyongyang takes about 24 hours, though tickets are currently restricted to government officials and businesspeople. The reopening reflects Beijing's efforts to strengthen ties with one of its closest allies, as China remains North Korea's top trading partner and an economic lifeline amid international sanctions. The rail link could also support Pyongyang's plans to develop its tourism industry.
