I gathered a bunch of My Little Ponies i've found from Thrift Stores/Flea Markets over the months into a lot and finally made time to identify them! If you see anything that you can identify and I can't - let me know - I always appreciate the help. I can't always remember what I paid or what lot goes together, check out my instagram to see how much I pay for my toy hauls, I like to encourage people to get out there and buy from the thritt stores/charity shops/flea markets to save money on secondhand dealers (those who buy to sell online).
I buy secondhand toys to fill in gaps for a rather large toy collection and to keep for trades. I also dabble in customising sometimes for fun. I prefer to restore toys rather than change them. I have loved My Little Ponies since I was a young girl. I have enjoyed all television series of My Little Pony G1, G2 and G4, wasn't much of a fan of G3 as I felt it lacked the intelligence of the other seasons. G2 Ponytales is often looked down upon but I see it as a stepping stone for G4.

Tips:
When buying have a limit on the toy. I spend in New Zealand dollars. Generally I only buy ponies at: G1 $1-5. G2, G3, G4 $1-3. In my country my experience is that you can buy ponies in this price ranger if you are patient and ignore overpriced secondhand dealers! If you buy low you won't be disappointed if you find the pony needs more restoration work than you first assumed. Of course this buying price isn't realistic if you are looking for a rare pony but my buy price has managed to get me most standard ponies and even score me a few rares.
Hold the Pony up to the light, look for black mould inside or rusting around the tail in older ponies. These devalue the pony greatly.
Check hair plugs.
Ponies plastic are prone to fading, keep them in a dark space if you want them to retain their colouring: especially G1s. Sometimes fading is restorable by dye washes.
Ponies can turn into dalmations if you don't test zit cream lightening first. If you are in a doubt its better to keep a small mark than ruin an older pony with permanent damage. Sometimes marks just fade out by themselves. I've learnt this from experience. I ruined a G1 princess pony because of a few small mark restorations - the highlighter would had faded itself over time but I was impatient and paid for it with a ruined pony! White toys can turn yellow with zit cream too so be careful. Zit cream can ruin toys over time as it can continue to lighten past your restoration so this is a remedy you should only use if you are confident in your ability to know when to remove it otherwise you can find your perfect restoration work has turned to a terrible mess months later! I find that people recommend this restoration method too easily without warning people that it can do more damage than it fixes.
Buying pony doubleups is a great way to increase your collection with swaps!
Just because something is an old pony doesn't mean its worth more than a newer generation of ponies.
If thrifting you can take your phone with you and identify a pony at a store and its value by looking up "sold listings" on ebay. This is the easiest way to see what people are buying this product for. Do NOT value a toy by unsold listings as people can list a product for whatever value they want - but whether it actually sells is a different matter! Generally I take an ebay sale price and then devalue it a bit more for Thrift Stores/Flea Markets.
The above is just my experiences, i've been going to markets since I was a little girl of 5 years old. I'm now an old mum :). It may be different in your country.
