Legal scholar Kate Shaw argues that the error rate for something as consequential as electing the president proves it has outlived its usefulness. Electoral College expert Tara Ross disputes this claim, arguing that only three elections have been awarded to a president who did not secure the popular vote, and further, this is a design of the system, not a flaw. An excerpt from the debate "The Electoral College Has Outlived Its Usefulness."
This debate is presented in partnership with the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law as part of the Newt and Jo Minow Debate Series.
