The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is proposing a new Odd-Even Scheme for EDSA that it calls Windows Two . . .

Under the so-called Windows Two . . . Vehicles with plate numbers . . . or with conduction sticker numbers . . . ending in an Odd number will be banned from EDSA on the following window hours:

7 to 9 a.m.

1 to 3 p.m.

5 to 7 p.m.

Those ending with Even numbers will be banned on the following window hours:

9 to 11 a.m.

3 to 5 p.m.

7 to 9 p.m.

Windows Two will be in effect from Monday to Friday, except on official holidays. . . .

According to MMDA officer in charge Tim Orbos, the Metro Manila Council could approve Windows Two for implementation beginning in April once the MMDA has finished clearing the Mabuhay Lanes or identified alternates routes using secondary streets of obstructions and illegally parked vehicles . . . as well as illegal terminals . . .

Windows Two would cover the sections of EDSA from Magallanes in Makati to North Avenue in Quezon City.

The MMDA believes the new scheme would reduce the volume of vehicles on EDSA by half and increase average travel speed from 19 kilometers per hour to 40 kilometers per hour . . .

The proposed Windows Two soon trended on social media . . . with screenshots of the new proposal being shared on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram . . .

The comments ranged from Funny ( cut to Appropriate screenshots of comments) . . . Angry .. . Satyrical or Cynical . . . Or just Indifferent or Resigned . . .

Windows Two has not yet been official approved and remains just a proposal . . .


Motorists who find the Unified Volume Vehicle Reduction Program too restricting and unfair to vehicle owners are naturally against more restrictions . . . It is understandable that many are angry . . .as reflective in the comments section of social media posts . . .

However, it must be remembered that Windows Two is still a proposal and perhaps the MMDA, in airing the proposal is really seeking to consult the motoring public, crowd-sourcing reactions so to speak . . .

It may be doing what motorists and the general public have been asking government all along . . . that they are consulted on policies that would affect them . . .

So perhaps it is best to keep our comments on a more rationale level . . . and not to resort to insults and name-calling . . . Better yet, suggest schemes that are reasonable and acceptable . . .

And perhaps traffic authorities and the MMDA could then come up with schemes that reflect the public concensus on how to ease traffic on EDSA and the rest of Metro Manila . . .
