Why is every party in Punjab wary of the rising new political interests and who is really blocking BJP's path in the state?
In this episode of Unstoppable Punjab, host Manpreet Singh Ramanvasia sits down with independent journalist Mandeep Punia for a direct, ground-level read of where Punjab politics is heading into 2027. Punia argues the next election is unusually hard to call: voters are holding their cards close, and the old certainties around AAP, Congress, Akali Dal, and BJP have all loosened.
The conversation runs through the questions Punjabis are actually asking. Why BJP, in his view, would rather see many small Panthic parties than one strong Akali Dal. Why the party keeps attracting elite, wealthy Jatt leaders yet struggles to convert that into Jatt or Sikh votes. Why he believes BJP's Haryana style caste-coalition playbook stalls in Punjab, where, as he puts it, Sikh identity tends to override caste. He also digs into migration and changing voter demographics, the delimitation question, and the SIR voter-roll exercise, and what each could mean for who actually gets to vote.
Punia is equally pointed on the others: a Congress he sees as divided and under-led, an AAP whose biggest promises he feels went unmet, and the drug crisis that, in his telling, no government has confronted honestly, which is part of why a newer part of young politics resonates with so many, especially women and the young. The discussion also touches the memory of June 1984 and why, for many Sikhs, national parties still carry that weight.
These are the guest's interpretations and analysis, shared for open public discussion (see disclaimer).
