రాత్రికిరాత్రి ప్రతిపక్షనాయకులు లాల్ క్రిష్ణ అద్వాని, అటల్ బిహారీ వాజ్, పాయ్, విజయ్ రాజే సిందియా, జయప్రకాష్ నారాయణ్, ములాయం సింగ్ యాదవ్, రాజ్ నారాయణ్, మురార్జీ దేశాయ్, చరణ్ సింగ్, జార్జ్ ఫెర్నాండెజ్, అరుణ్ జైట్లీ, లల్లూ ప్రసాద యాదవ్ మొదలైన ప్రముఖ నాయకులందరూ జైళ్ళలో కుక్కబడ్డారు.

On the morning of June 28, 1975, the Indian Express carried a shocking sight.
Under the bold heading “Editorial” lay a completely blank page.
It was not an error — it was a statement.
The voice of the press had been choked into silence.
In a true democracy, the Legislature, Executive, Judiciary, and the Press work as four independent pillars.
But when those elected to protect democracy dismantle the other three institutions and clutch them tightly in their fist, can we still call it democracy?

That night, in a swift and coordinated strike, the nation’s leading opposition voices were silenced.
Lal Krishna Advani, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Pai, Vijaya Raje Scindia, Jayaprakash Narayan, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Raj Narain, Morarji Desai, Charan Singh, George Fernandes, Arun Jaitley, Lalu Prasad Yadav — all were dragged into prisons without trial.

The assault did not stop there.
Nearly ten million citizens were forced into sterilization surgeries.
This was a campaign that outdid even Hitler’s Germany — for Hitler had ordered such operations on “only” four hundred thousand people.

What happened in India during those dark months was not just political repression — it was an attack on the very soul of the nation.
