What should have been a quiet winter escape turned into a test of patience, judgment, and staying safe in freezing conditions.
As the hours passed, everything became soaked through.
By 3am, I made the call to abandon the camp and head back to the van rather than push things too far.
I returned in the morning to pack up, cold, exhausted, but wiser.
