The Arrival of Renaissance Architecture in the New World
Dr. Julia Vicioso is an Architecture Historian with a PhD in History and Conservation from La Sapienza University in Rome. She received her Masters from the Scuola di Specializzazione in Storia e Restauro di Monumenti, University of La Sapienza, Rome where she presented a dissertation on San Giovanni dei Fiorentini, the Florentine church and Community in Rome. This has continued to be the main focus of her research interests.
Dr. Vicioso is also a graduate of the Archival and Paleography School of the Vatican Secret Archives. She is a MAP Board Member, and in the past was a fellow.
She is interested in the early colonial architecture of the so-called New World and is currently preparing a book on the subject.
In her talk she will share some of the findings from her research into one particular palace based on archival documents and drawings.
