179 AD: Founding of Regensburg as a Roman legionary camp Castra Regina (“camp on the rain”) on behalf of Emperor Marc Aurel.
In the camp was the III. Italian legion stationed with about 6000 soldiers.
739 AD: Founding of the diocese of Regensburg by St. Boniface.
6th century AD: Castra Regina as "Reganespurc" becomes the ducal residence of the Agilolfinger and the first Bavarian capital.
Around 700: Founding of the Church of St. Emmeran.
788: The last Agilolfinger Tassilo III. is deposed by Charlemagne. For the first time, he invites to an imperial assembly in Regensburg.
From 1007: Regensburg loses its function as a residential city to Bamberg, but remains of great importance.
12th and 13th centuries: Economic boom through long-distance trade to Paris, Venice and Kyiv.
Regensburg becomes one of the largest and most prosperous cities of the time.

1245: Emperor Frederick II grants the city the right to self-government through the privilege of "appointing a mayor and council". Free Imperial City until 1803.
Around 1273: Start of construction of the Gothic cathedral in Regensburg.
From 1400: Regensburg loses the economic, political and cultural supremacy of the past centuries.
1492-1496: Restoration of the status "free imperial city" by the emperor.
1519: Expulsion of the Jews from Regensburg and destruction of their residential area.
1542: The town converts to the Protestant denomination.

1943: Air raid on Regensburg with 402 dead. The old town is largely spared.

2006: From September 11th to 14th, Pope Benedict XVI visits Regensburg.
2006: Since July 13, the old town ensemble of Regensburg with Stadtamhof has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
2011: Regensburg is awarded the contract for the new Museum of Bavarian History.
2013: Jubilee "40 Years of Citizens' Festival"
2014: Bavarian state exhibition "Ludwig der Bayer. Wir sind Kaiser!"
2014: House of Music is built and opened in February 2015.
