When facemasks started becoming commonplace during the COVID-19 pandemic, my own thoughts went back several centuries to the time of the Black Death and the bird masks that plague doctors wore. So I decided to make my own Plague Doctor Bird Mask out of leather using the power of my cast iron vintage Singer treadle sewing machine.
{For personal moral/ethical reasons, I only ever use reclaimed leather.
The leather was reclaimed from a sofa being throw out by my neighbours.}
This is a tutorial/process video showing how I made a DIY plague doctor mask.
I used the free pattern at http://www.stormthecastle.com/how-to-... with the following modifications:
raised and extended the beak
changed the curve around the eyes to accommodate the changed beak
