The City of Mt Sterling, KY proposed a 50% TAX INCREASE in Restaurant Tax at its meeting held on Tuesday, February 18, 2026 at 5:30 PM.
Mount Sterling is attempting to increase the sales tax on prepared meals from 2% to 3% which is a 50% tax increase. This sales tax affects all restaurants, grocery stores, and gas stations located inside Mt. Sterling city limits that sell prepared meals. The tax does not apply to alcohol, there is no alcohol tax in the city of Mt. Sterling. Make sure when dining out you are not taxed at the 2% on alcohol.
