Koleksiyon, Yüksel Erimtan’ın 1960 yılında Roma yüzük taşları almasıyla başlamış, sonraları yetkin arkeologların tavsiyelerinden faydalanılarak genişletilmiştir. MÖ 3. binden Bizans Dönemi’ne kadar uzanan bir zaman dilimini kapsayan koleksiyon; Hitit, Urartu, Asur, Akhamenid ve Bizans gibi farklı uygarlıklara ve dönemlere ait eserleri barındırmaktadır.

Ankara Kalesi'nde yer alan Erimtan Müzesi'ni oluşturan üç tarihi evin dış mekân algısı kentsel ve mimari ölçeklerde korunurken iç mekânda bütüncül bir tasarım anlayışı geliştirilmiştir. Eski ve yeni arasında yer alan kesin çizgi Ankara'ya özgü malzemelerle vurgulanmış, doğal Ankara taşı ve brüt betonarme yüzeyler bu gerilimli çizginin okunmasına araç oluşturmuşlardır. Tarihi ev kalıntılarının bugüne kadar getirdiği dış duvarlar müze işlevlerini barındıran ve derinliği olan mekânlar olarak ele alınmış, tüm servis ve altyapı birimleri bu mekânlarda konumlandırılmıştır.

Müze koleksiyonundaki eserler, Anadolu coğrafyasının kültürel mirasını vurgulamanın yanı sıra belirli bir olay örgüsü ile bir araya getirilmiş, böylece izleyiciye alışılagelmiş sergileme yöntemlerinden farklı şekillerde sunularak, hem eserlerin görsel değerlerinin öne çıkarılması hem de izleyicilerin eserleri güncel yaşam unsurlarıyla ilişkilendirmeleri amaçlanmıştır.

The Erimtan Archaeology and Arts Museum collection is a special archaeology collection featuring two thousand movable works, most of which have their origins in Anatolia. The collection was born when Yüksel Erimtan purchased his first Roman ring stones in 1960, and expanded over time with advice from expert archeologists. The collection, which covers the period of time from 3000 B.C. up until the Byzantine Empire, includes works that belong to civilizations such as the Hittites, Urartu, Assyrians, Achaemenids, and Byzantines.

The Erimtan Museum is composed of three historical houses located at the citadel of Ankara. While the exterior architecture represents the historical traces of these dwellings, the interior provides the unique experience of a comprehensive museum space. The definitive line that separates the old from the new is emphasized with the use of materials characteristic of Ankara, and surfaces made of Ankara stone and exposed concrete serve as tools that further demonstrate the tension running through this line. The walls of the houses were interpreted in such a way as to reframe the museum and to accommodate the services and the necessary technical infrastructure.

The works in the museum collection not only emphasize the cultural legacy of the Anatolian landscape, but have also been brought together in a way that presents the viewer with unconventional exhibition methods that highlight the visual value of the works, while allowing viewers to draw parallels between the works and elements from their contemporary daily lives.
