Ms. Xiaoying Zheng, now in her early 90‘s, is a conductor with international influence.
Symphony conductors have always been a man's world, and women rarely get involved, and she is the first female conductor in China. Looking back on her life, she was grateful that as a female conductor, she did not encounter gender discrimination and revealed the reasons. Ms. Xiaoying Zheng is now (2019) 90 years old, still maintaining a young mentality, active in the command stage, continuing her artistic life and sparing no effort to play a personal role in popularizing classical music in China. As the first female conductor of symphony in China, she has too many labels and halos: she is one of the music directors and founders of the Philharmonic Orchestra, the former art director and chief conductor of Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra, the executive director of China Musicians Association, the former director of the command department of the Central Conservatory of music, and the former chief conductor of the orchestra of the Central Opera House.
She has visited more than 10 countries and regions such as the United States, Italy and Russia for more than 30 times, and successfully conducted more than 100 operas and symphonies. With strong artistic appeal, she has won the love of countless audiences at home and abroad. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
