Diagnosing and treating gastrointestinal manifestations of cystic fibrosis have come to the forefront in recent years as effective medical and nutrition therapies have led to increased life expectancy in people with CF. While gastrointestinal symptoms have been known to exist, the burden and severity have not been well studied, especially in children. Even less is known about how CFTR modulators affect these symptoms.
Cystic fibrosis liver disease is the third leading cause of death in this population and an area in need of further exploration. The ability to better identify those patients who may progress to severe liver disease is imperative for appropriate monitoring and treatment of potential complications.
This session touches on the above topics, discussing the findings of large multicenter studies and evaluating biomarkers and radiologic tools to monitor GI disease.
