We continue to push the limit of hardness on platinum. In this episode, we test the Pt950Ga50 alloy by pulling it into a wire and creating it into a spring, to see if it can actually function inside a small jewellery clasp. (special thanks to Lee Spring for coiling the spring sample).
The experiment hopes to showcase that Pt950 can reach a hardness potential of 300+Hv when the right alloy is considered, hence disproving any doubts on platinum’s hardness and strength for common jewellery purposes.
