Ohio officer Connor Grubb acquitted on all counts in the shooting death of Ta'Kiya Young

Connor Grubb was acquitted on all counts during his high-profile murder trial on Friday morning.

Grubb is the Blendon Township police officer who shot and killed Ta'Kiya Young, a 21-year-old pregnant mother, who was accused of shoplifting.

The 2023 incident in the parking lot outside a Kroger store made national headlines. Young was accused of stealing liquor bottles from the store.

That's when Grubb and a second officer approached Young, who was seen on body-camera video trying to drive away, bumping into Grubb in the process, prompting Grubb to fire his gun one time.

At issue was whether Grubb was guilty of murder or if he was acting in self-defense.

In addition to the murder charge, Grubb also faced two counts of felonious assault and two more of involuntary manslaughter.

Grubb had faced additional charges related to the death of Young's unborn baby, but Judge David Young ruled this week to dismiss those counts.

The jury got the case Wednesday afternoon and deliberated for about 2.5 hours.

One of the jurors fell ill, however, and was unable to return on Thursday, forcing an alternate to stand in and thus requiring the panel to start their deliberations all over again.

The panel consisted of nine women and three men. Only one of them was Black.

Grubb's legal troubles are far from over. He and the Blendon Township Police Department and Kroger are named in a civil lawsuit filed by Ta'Kiya Young's family.
