Onboard one of EasyJets "plain" livery A320s for a December flight from London Gatwick to the Northern Icelandic town of Akureyri. This aircraft was previously operated by Japanese carrier Peach, before transferring to Easyjet.
This is a new route for EasyJet and they are the only schedule, international carrier to fly to Akureyri. Twice a week from Gatwick & Manchester both on Saturdays & Tuesdays. This time of year Akureyri only has a limited window of daylight hours, so flight timings from the UK are timed to arrive & depart AEY in daylight.
A bright morning leaving Gatwick, just after 9am. Some fog patches still lingering as you can see during the climb. Once airborne turned northbound towards London, over LCY airport and continuing up the UK. Once over Iceland the cloud cover broke up allowing for some stunning views of the snowy landscape and some volcanos during the descent. Before making the turn around the mountains and into the valley where Akureyri lies. This winter season so far has been unseasonably mild, in fact the snowfall had thawed. You'll notice during the descent the snow receeding to only the hills surrounding the town as we fly down the valley, over the Fjiord into Akureyri.
