Senate Democrats block funding bill as DHS shutdown looms

Описание: Senate Democrats voted down a measure that would advance a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security on Thursday, ushering in a partial government shutdown.

The measure requires a 60-vote threshold to advance the bill. However, the vote failed 52-47. Sen. John Fetterman, D-Penn., was the only Democrat to vote for the motion.

Senate lawmakers are now out of town for a preplanned week-long recess. Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., told reporters he expects negotiations to continue over the weekend.
