How To Improve Your Backhand
Tennis is a game of rhythm and tempo. Jeff Salzenstein shares a powerful footwork tip to help you instantly improve your backhand movement and technique. Jeff discovered this little known tip towards the end of his career, and he is committed to help you transform your tennis footwork. Hence, you can start moving in an effortless and efficient manner like the pros.
He has seen many passionate tennis players at all levels make this common mistake. They have the tendency to use a crossover step on the first move to the ball. The issue with this movement is that they’re blocking the hips, which leads to a technique breakdown on the backhand.
There are different ways to move to the ball, but Jeff encourages you to use this secret footwork pattern to transform your backhand. It’s called the shuffle step and Andy Murray uses it quite frequently when moving to hit his backhand. Here’s how you can do it.
Start with your split step. Then, take a small step out and follow it by with a shuffle move. Afterwards, you’ll make the first move, take the racquet back, and hit the ball. This footwork pattern allows you to get behind the ball without stepping across. You can practice it anywhere, and you’ll be amazed to see how your backhand and movement goes to the next level.
