"Goin' Up on the Mountain" is a gospel number, performed here by the Seldom Scene on June 8, 1996, at Lexington Kentucky's "Festival of the Bluegrass." The song was included on their album "Dream Scene," and was probably based on earlier versions released by Peter Rowan and (way back in 1977) by Jody Stecher. Composer is unknown (to me), but the song is credited on the earlier releases as "traditional."
I like the four-part vocal harmony parts done by lead singer guitar-player Dudley Connell, supported by mandolinist John Duffey, dobroist Fred Travers, and electric bassist Ronnie Simpkins. At the very end, banjoist Ben Eldridge joins in with a fifth vocal part as well!
This videotape was shot and edited in 1996 by Kentucky Educational Television (KET) under the direction of my friend and former bandmate: Russ Farmer, only about 6 few months before John Duffey's death.
