Hillary Clinton questioned for 6 hours on Epstein ties; leaked photo pauses deposition

Описание: Hillary Clinton testified before House Oversight Committee members on Thursday, as they continue their probe into Jeffrey Epstein.

After roughly six hours of questioning, the former Secretary of State shared with the press what she told lawmakers: that she has no new information about Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell; doesn't recall ever meeting him; and never flew on his plane or visited his home, office or island.

"Never had any connection or communication with him. I knew Ghislaine Maxwell casually as an acquaintance but whatever they asked me I did my very best to respond," Clinton said.

The closed-door deposition comes after the committee, including some Democrats, previously voted to hold the Clintons in contempt for defying subpoenas. Republicans said, their testimony is critical to better understand Epstein and Maxwell's sex trafficking network.

Democrats on the other hand, have demanded that President Donald Trump be called next.

"It is a bipartisan investigation. The American people have a lot of questions. To my knowledge, the Clintons haven't answered very many, if any, questions about their knowledge or involvement with Epstein and Maxwell," said House Oversight Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY).

"I hope that Chairman Comer and the Republicans will join us in demanding that the person who actually appears more times in the files than the former president who we want to speak with is President Donald Trump," added Ranking Member, Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA).

Aside from Trump, lawmakers were also asked if Howard Lutnick will be called to testify, after it was recently revealed the Commerce Secretary visited Epstein's island years after he was convicted of soliciting a minor.

"That's very possible, and... I think it's a good possibility that his name will arise in some questioning today," said Comer.

"It'll be on my list, and I have an email I printed off for Hillary to ask about Howard Lutnick today," added Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC).

In an unexpected moment Thursday, members of Clinton's staff rushed to the outside podium, to tell reporters the deposition was on pause.

"The hearing has been paused briefly while they figure out where the photo came from and why possibly members of congress are violating house rules," staffers said.

A pause was called for after a leaked photo of Clinton inside the deposition was posted on social media by conservative influencer Benny Johnson.

Johnson wrote on social media that the photo was sent to him by Rep. Lauren Boebert, (R-CO) who was inside during the deposition.
