A radiosonde is a battery-powered telemetry instrument carried into the atmosphere usually by a weather balloon that measures various atmospheric parameters and transmits them by radio to a ground receiver.

Radiosondes are an essential source of data for meteorology, and hundreds are launched all over the world daily.

VK5QI is also a member of Project Horus. Project Horus is an amateur high altitude balloon project based in Adelaide, Australia. The aim of the project is to build and fly low cost weather balloon payloads into the stratosphere, capturing photographs, recording sensor data and providing a reliable launch platform for high altitude experiments.
