The Muglin-Narayanghat highway is one of Nepal’s busiest roads, but it carries a dark reputation for being "haunted." Among the many urban legends, the story of the Kichkandi (a female spirit or banshee in Nepali folklore) is the most famous and chilling.
👻 The Legend of the Muglin Kichkandi
The story usually centers around the narrow, cliff-side bends of the Trishuli river. According to local lore and driver testimonies, the Kichkandi is the spirit of a woman who died a tragic or violent death—often attributed to the many bus accidents that occur on this stretch.
The Description:
The Appearance: She is typically described as a beautiful young woman standing alone by the side of the road in the dead of night, often wearing a white or red dress.
The Trap: She signals for a lift. Legend says that if a lonely driver stops to pick her up, she sits in the back seat. When the driver looks in the rearview mirror, her face becomes distorted, or he notices her feet are turned backward (the classic sign of a Kichkandi).
The Consequence: Drivers claim that she tries to grab the steering wheel or distract them at dangerous "hairpin" turns, leading the vehicle to plunge into the Trishuli River.
The "Vanishing" Act: Many stories tell of drivers who pick her up, only for her to vanish into thin air while the vehicle is still moving, leaving a cold chill or a faint scent of jasmine behind.
