Old Vintage Smoking Pipe Restoration

Описание: This is restoration of old vintage smoking pipe. It wasn't that bad shape but some rust on the bowl cover and it was pretty dirty. I got this smoking pipe for restoration as donation. Restoration started by taking the pipe parts apart. I heated the pipe to melt the glue, then I cleaned the chamber and stem using alcohol and brush. The stem was very dirty. After the cleaning it was time to sand wooden pieces and clear coat them.

The collar used to put stem and stummel together was pretty interesting. I thought it's pure brass when I polished it before tried aging it. After the aging I think there has to be some copper in it because the color went so bluish green. Anyway I think the aging made the collar pretty interesting piece because all that pattern the aging caused.

Now only thing left to restore was the cover. After sandblasting I realized the cover was originally painted or plated. I thought this is perfect time me to learn how to nickel plate. So I started to study how to do it and I think I got the cover pretty nicely plated. What you think?

Then I put all parts back together using epoxy glue
