HD DB ICE3 High Speed Train Departing Frankfurt Station under heavy motor load

Описание: This Deutsche Bahn ICE3 train was leaving Frankfurt Hauptbanhof bound for Essen on 25 July 2016. It seems to be under a heavy load because it has a very loud and long motor run-up period. If you're a fan of the characteristic traction motor of the ICE3, then it comes through very loud and clear in this video.

I live in Australia and got the chance to do some rail travel during a holiday in Europe. It's easy to criticise trains in Australia, the fastest they go anywhere in the country is about 150kph. However, the ICE train network had quite a few problems in summer 2016. On this day, there was a signal failure south of Karlsruhe and all trains on the line through Mannheim south towards Basel were delayed. Temperatures topping 35degrees seemed to play havoc in general with the ICE trains (no pun intended!)

I once travelled in the cab of a freight train. It was 3km long. When it started to move off, the driver had to move forward very slowly until the entire train had 'stretched', to prevent undue pressure on the couplings. These ICE trains don't have shared bogies like the French TGV system, so you could imagine on long trains they also have to 'stretch' the train when it pulls out of a station. This driver does that very well. You can hear the traction motor in high power, low speed mode and how the train stretches, before he allows it to gather speed.

It was a long walk to the front of the platform for this video, but worth it, if only to remember the sound. For those into sound engineering, the sound wave pattern looks mighty nice when I put this together :)
