Transport Accident Commission Victoria (TAC) is a government run organization founded in 1986 that insures third-party insurance for auto accidents, and starting in 1989 with their first ad "Girlfriend", have become known for their government commissioned road safety ads, most notably in the 1990s. These ads became staples of Australian culture, and swept many of the advertising award shows such as the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity and the Clio Awards. They were mostly noted for their creative storytelling through advertising which was unconventional at the time, for their realistic and graphic SFX and dramatized crashes, and for emotional impact and effectiveness.
