Hundreds of students staged a protest in the Indonesian capital Jakarta on October 20, 2025, marking one year since President Prabowo Subianto took office. Demonstrators criticised his policies including a flagship free school meals programme. The controversial scheme has been criticised for poor management that has led to tens of thousands of food poisoning cases. Protesters also demanded the release of protesters detained during the unrest in August.
