Dakota fire pit is a highly efficient, low-profile, underground fire made with two connected holes: a main fire chamber and an air intake tunnel, which creates a strong draft, making it burn hot, with little smoke, and concealed from view, ideal for stealth camping or cooking.
How it Works:
Two Holes: You dig a main fire pit and a second, smaller hole upwind.
Underground Tunnel: A tunnel connects the bottom of the air intake hole to the bottom of the fire pit.
Airflow (Draft): Wind blowing over the intake hole creates a vacuum, pulling cool air through the tunnel, feeding oxygen to the base of the fire.
Efficient Combustion: This forced draft intensifies the fire, leading to more complete combustion, generating intense heat with minimal smoke.
Concealment: Because the fire burns in a hole with only a small opening above ground, the flames are hidden and protected from wind.
