A British industrialist finds himself playing the world's most charming third wheel during a massive housing shortage at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Sir William Rutland (Cary Grant) manages to talk his way into sharing an apartment with the reluctant Christine Easton (Samantha Eggar), only to complicate things further by subletting his half to an American Olympic athlete, Steve Davis (Jim Hutton). Between the strict schedules and a boring fiancé, Rutland decides to put his matchmaking skills to the test to ensure true love takes the gold.
