Three Sounds: Warm Audio WA-C1 Chorus Vibrato. A modern CE-1 alternative

Today we’re checking out the WA-C1 Chorus/Vibrato from Warm Audio. The WA-C1 is their take on the legendary CE-1, and does an excellent job of recreating the iconic tones while providing some modern updates to the circuit. The WA-C1 is an all analog circuit built around an xvive MN3007 chip.

The original CE-1 was designed for use with keyboards and didn’t get along with the impedance of guitar inputs without the help of a buffer, the WA-C1 adds a Hi-Z switch on the rear of the unit to fix that issue, it can also be set to a vintage mode which is more accurate to the originals. The other noticeable change comes to the chorus controls. The original featured a single Intensity knob, while the Warm features separate rate and depth controls.

The layout of the WA-C1 is simple, a Level control for the preamp of the pedal (as well as the High/Low switch). It’s always in the circuit even when bypassed. At its higher settings it can introduce a very nice overdriven tone. I’m using it for all the drive you hear in the solo section.

And then there are rare/depth controls for the Chorus and Vibrato sections. The two footswitches control the pedal bypass and let you choose between chorus/vibrato. You can also split the signal and run stereo out to two amps.
